The Garba is a folk dance of Gujarat, and is a feature of the Navratri festival. A singer, drummer and musicians provide the accompaniment, as the dancers whirl. The participants, starting slowly, clap a steady rhythm, it gets faster and faster growing to a crescendo. Another dance is the Dandia-Ras or 'stick' dance, in which men and women join the dance circle, holding the dandias or sticks. As they whirl to the rhythm of the dance, they strike their dandias together, adding to the joyous, festive atmosphere.
